Overview

General Muhoozi Kainerugaba is the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) of the Uganda People's Defence Force (UPDF). In this role, he oversees the country's military establishment and contributes to Uganda's national security, defence policy implementation, and regional security cooperation.

Early Life and Education

General Muhoozi Kainerugaba is the son of President Yoweri Museveni and First Lady Janet Museveni. He received his education in Uganda and abroad before undertaking professional military training at internationally recognized military institutions, including advanced officer training in the United States and the United Kingdom.

His military education provided a strong foundation in leadership, strategic planning, and modern defence operations, contributing to his professional development as a senior military officer.

Military Career

General Muhoozi Kainerugaba began his military career in the Uganda People's Defence Force, serving in progressively senior command and leadership positions.

He previously commanded the Special Forces Command (SFC), the UPDF formation responsible for the protection of the President, strategic national installations, and other critical national interests. During his tenure, the command continued to strengthen its operational capabilities and professionalism.

He later served as Commander of Land Forces before being appointed Chief of Defence Forces in March 2024. As CDF, he is responsible for providing strategic military leadership, overseeing defence operations, personnel administration, capability development, and implementation of national defence priorities.

Throughout his service, he has supported the UPDF's participation in national and regional security initiatives, including efforts to promote stability and counter armed groups in the region.
